Director Danny Madden's live action short won the SXSW + Vimeo staff pick award landing it on the front page of Vimeo. Krista, actress Shirley Chen, won the jury award for best acting in a narrative short. Danny always finds ways to get every last ounce out story from his filmmaking process. In the color grade that turned out to craft the "faded memory" look Krista draws on through the film as well as a few extra touches like tracking in bruising around her neck for a few shots. Next up for team Krista is expanding and widening the scope of the short into a feature film which you can help kickstart right here! Very excited for things to come.
Proud to be a part of Team Jinn. Nija Mu'min's first feature film had a warm welcome with multiple sold out showings at SXSW where Nijla was awarded the special jury prize for writing. The Hollywood Reporter and LAtimes had some good things to say as well. As colorist for the film, Sean worked closely with DP Bruce Francis Cole to craft a rich, vibrant film with two narrative looks reflecting the two worlds the characters navigate. Editor Collin Kriner did some exceptional work on the film and is always an exceptional collaborator. Crystal Villamayor pitched in on finishing the many invisible and storytelling-centric VFX shots for the film. Avril Speaks produced and Paul Zahnley + Disher Sound handled sound design and rerecording.
I worked with Director Nick D'Agostino & Producer Courtney Azzara to put the finishing color touches on their dark, dense and poetic stop motion animated short, Blind Mice. The film will have it's world premiere at GLAS animation festival in March. They gifted me a prop from the film, the opium pipe used by the lead character.
Director Trevor Jimenez, Production Designer Chris Sasaki & Producer Jeremy Slome brought their film over to put the finishing color touches on this immensely beautiful film. Being in a packed house for the premiere at Pixar was incredible.
The film has gone on to be featured in over two dozen film festivals and took home the audience and grand jury awards at the prestigious Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Here's Trevor accepting the award.
We finished 19 spots for Tostitos' Lucky Bags campaign. It was a fun challenge to dialing in the official team colors for each spot while still leaving room for creativity with the look. Capitol Art's Director of Photography, Ed Ng, and the Goodby Silverstein crew were a blast as always to collaborate with. AdWeek had some kind words to say about the campaign.
We helped Director Charles Choo tell the story of GAN restaurant. A unique, modern take on Korean Cuisine. Shot & colored by Sean Wells, edited by Crystal Villamayor.
Here's the trailer for a feature film Sean color graded via Mission Film & Design. Writer/Director Preston DeFrancis and DP Jesse Eisenhardt were a blast to work with and the film has had an incredible festival run!
Sean helped with color finishing on this piece for Alysia Montano from director Lauren Finerman & editor Shirley Wen. Produced by French Press Films.
It's Saturday and all Matt wants to do is play ball with his buddies... but a certain internet/cable company has other plans.

And here's how much fun we had making this one:
Our favorite Oakland International Airport just got better with direct flights to London. Berkeley's biggest hype man, David Wittman is here to tell you about it. Produced by Travis and Maude, Directed by Lauren Finerman, shot by Ben Lunden, cut by Jake Pushinsky and colored by Sean Wells.
During his time at Star Wars Celebration, Sean hid in a tiny box with a large camera to surprise some fans with John Boyega.
Sean got out of the darkroom for a week and joined Lucasfilm's video production team to cover the biggest Star Wars convention to date. 25,000 steps a day carrying an FS7 is tiring, but interviewing the best fans in the universe about what Star Wars means to them made it more than worthwhile. A few highlights include following Mark, Harrison and George on stage and hanging backstage, 10 feet from the John Williams led orchestra provided permanent goosebumps. Director Ian Bucknole, Producer Trish Brunner & the rest of the crew were a blast to work with.
You can now catch the online premier of A Morning Light on nobudge.com! Director Ian Clark dives into the sci-fi genre with a grounded, reflective and unsettling point of view. Sean handled the final color grading for this feature film.
Back in collaboration with Danny Madden and the Ornana gang. We provided the color grade and a couple dozen vfx cleanup and composite shots for this incredible short film which received a nice write-up via Short of the Week. We premiered the film up at Skywalker Ranch with Pete Horner, the film's talented sound designer.
The color suite and I also made it into the behind the scenes video:
